The Data Integration Questions You Can Expect From District Customers

At Ednition, our mission is simple: To help EdTech companies scale and support their school and district customers. We know that navigating district integration requirements can be complex and overwhelming. That’s why we partner closely with edtech vendor teams to equip them with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to simplify the integration conversation.

Because when it comes to data integration, districts are driving the bus (pun absolutely intended). And, no, they don’t bend. Our goal is to help you answer, ‘Yes!’ to anything a school district can throw at you.

Whether you're early in the sales cycle or entering technical onboarding, there are three core questions every district will ask your team. The good news? Ednition can help you quickly answer them.

1. Do You Integrate With My SIS?

This is the question you’ll hear most often from a school/district. And the question often comes up early in the sales process. Districts want to know if your application(s) seamlessly integrates with their Student Information System (SIS), and you want to be able to respond with ‘absolutely’ to keep the sale moving forward.

Here’s the reality:

RosterStream supports ALL SISs on the market, either through direct API or through CSV transfer over SFTP. We’ve even introduced a district self-serve feature that allows districts to initiate and customize their connection method for a smoother and simpler onboarding process.

2. Do You Support My SSO Method?

Now that the school/district has purchased your application(s), you begin to engage the district IT staff on all of the integration. District IT staff are keen to quickly understand how teachers, students, parents, and admins will login and will want to know if you support their Single Sign-On (SSO) dashboard.

Ednition has another simple answer you can give the district: “Yes! We support all SSO methods (Google, Microsoft, Clever, Classlink, Oauth2, OpenID, LDAP, SAML, LTI, etc). RosterStream supports all major SSO methods, and we work with districts both large and small to make sure authentication to your application(s) just works.

Pro tip: If the district is using Clever, you can still support Clever SSO with RosterStream and save money by going directly to the district SIS for rostering!

3. What About Security and Subprocessors?

Once you’ve checked the SIS and SSO boxes, many districts want to know more about your security posture:

Ednition is here to support you as your school/district customers may perform security diligence on you and your application(s). Because Ednition is considered “infrastructure as a service”, you can list us along with your cloud provider and other subprocessors in your master services agreement. If the district requests more information on the security posture of your subprocessors, it’s simple to send them to the Ednition trust center, where they can request our Soc2 attestation reports, cyber insurance docs, and more. If you’re looking for help on creating a data privacy and security agreement to share with a district, we recommend starting with the 1Edtech DPSA template here. We’re here to help answer any questions you may have on security, so please reach out with questions!
