Introducing Pause Windows: More Control Over Your Sync Schedules

Back-to-school season brings rapid changes to district data, from updated class rosters to new student enrollments. Syncing at the wrong time can lead to errors or missing information… right when educators need everything to work smoothly.

To help with that, we’re introducing Sync Schedule Pause Windows, a new feature that lets you temporarily pause roster syncing during SIS rollover periods. With just a few clicks, you can pause syncs while districts complete Student Information System (SIS) rollovers and changes – when they update class rosters, student enrollments, and teacher assignments – giving your team time to verify changes or avoid syncing during scheduled downtime. It’s a flexible, reliable way to stay in control during the busiest time of the year.

What’s New & Why It Matters

If you work with schools and districts, syncing rostering data without errors or mistakes is critical to your businessBut syncing without regard for timing, can cause serious headaches, especially during SIS rollovers, when districts are preparing their systems for a new school year.

Sync Schedule Pause Windows gives you the ability to define exactly when syncs should not happen. During a pause window, your system will temporarily stop processing data updates. This helps your team prevent disruptions, avoid syncing incomplete or changing data, and ensure accuracy before everything goes live. Whether you're navigating SIS maintenance, onboarding new districts, or preparing for a new academic term, this feature gives you the flexibility to sync on your terms.

Two Ways to Pause Syncs

Global Pause Window

You can set one default pause window that applies to all of your current and future data sources. This is a good option for major SIS vendor maintenance, or when many districts are going through their rollovers at the same time.

Per Data Source Sync Pause

Need more control? You can also define custom pause windows for individual districts or data sources. This is ideal when different schools or SIS platforms follow different timelines. You can even opt certain sources out of the global pause when needed.

Common Use Cases

Pause Windows help your team manage sync timing with more control and fewer surprises. Here are a few common ways to use them:

How It Works

Setting up a pause window is easy, simply select the start and end times for the pause and RosterStream will automatically skip any syncs scheduled during that time. Once the pause window ends, your syncs will resume as scheduled. There is no need to restart anything manually.

You can configure pause windows in two places:
